My name is Jaira

Jaira is a Maryland-state licensed and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) clinically competent certified speech-language pathologist. Jaira graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2018 with her Bachelors degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences. She graduated from UMD, College Park for a second time in 2020 with her Masters in Speech-Language Pathology.

Jaira has had a wide array of learning and work experiences within the field, including internships at SpeechKids Pediatric Speech Therapy in Washington, DC and Maryland School for the Deaf in Columbia, MD. Jaira's practicum experiences include The River School servicing Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Children and Kaiser Permanente Largo Medical Center treating adults with dysphagia, aphasia, and phonotrauma. Most recently, Jaira has worked in outpatient clinics as well as public and private school systems treating children ages 2-18 with a variety of communication and feeding/swallowing disorders.

While Jaira loves all things speech and language, she has a particular passion for early-intervention and limited/complex language cases often co-morbid with autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and other health impairments. Jaira also has an affinity for and extensive experience with the programming and implementation of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) modalities, often used to supplement verbal speech and language.  Jaira believes that functional communication is a right that all children deserve access to, and makes it her mission to facilitate it for as many as possible.

Jaira founded Speech4Yourself Therapy in 2024 and is currently the principal speech-language pathologist and owner of the LLC.

I am Maryland-state licensed and hold my Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association. I keep up-to-date with the most evidenced-based practices and treatment methods through professional development courses and CEUs.

I value functional communication for my clients, as well as consistent and timely commnunication with families and caregivers. I aim to respond to all messages within 24 hours.
